The Topanga Farmers Market Gets a Reboot

Happenings Sam Crawford January 10, 2024

The All-New Topanga Farmers Market Makes Its Launch.

Topanga is all about community, but it's been nearly five years since we've had a regular farmers market to gather on crisp Friday mornings, stock up on local fresh produce, and catch up with friends and neighbors, sharing news and canyon gossip. Thanks to local Topangans Kate Kimmel and Freddi Swanson, that's about to change. This spring marks the long-awaited relaunch of the long-missed Topanga Farmer's Market, revamped and rethought to be bigger and better than ever.

“We are so excited to bring fresh produce to the canyon and create a convening space for local artisans, growers, and makers. We will have an exceptional collection of vendors: a total of 44 booths each week, including fresh produce, prepared foods, and a craft market. We are prioritizing partnering with local, regenerative, and organic producers, vendors, and artists committed to building community, educating consumers, and reducing negative impact on our environment."  - TFM Co-Founders, Freddi Swanson and Kate Kimmel

Their vision is grand, and we love it!

More than just a farmers market, they see this as a weekly community event. The vision is to create a gathering for the whole community, with live music, entertainment, arts, crafts, food, and fun. Set at the Topanga Community Center, the location is just the right fit for this type of weekly happening.

Aiming to be a zero-waste market, The Topanga Farmer’s Market vendors are asked to use less plastic packaging and disposable products, and customers are encouraged to bring reusable bags to the market. The TFM even sells its own reusable TFM branded tote bag. You can email them at [email protected]  to order one, as their online shopping is still in the works. What a great way to show your support for this awesome community event and keep the waste down, too.

Benefits That Go Beyond!

But it isn’t just about being an awesome event for Topangans and those who love Topanga. Kate and Freddi have leveraged their personal experiences working in the non-profit sector to take the benefit to an even greater level. A percentage of the market proceeds will support two incredible organizations: Suprmarkt, doing important work in South LA to make organic food accessible to all, and Celebration Nation, providing much-needed services to farm workers and their families.

Something For Everyone.

The snapshot below is a list of just a few of the vendors and looks pretty amazing already.

Community Driven & Community Supported.

The Topanga Farmers Market will only be as strong and amazing as the great community that supports it. Here’s how you can help:

  • Share and Comment on Instagram and Facebook posts: Help show vendors how vibrant, supportive, and excited our community is, and spread the word to other potential customers.
  • Spread the Word: Talk to your friends and neighbors and share the good news about the market launch on March 1st at the TCC.
  • Buy a Tote Bag! Email [email protected] to purchase a Topanga Farmers Market Tote Bag. Free local delivery and shipping are available.
  • Sponsors:  The TFM needs sponsors to help cover costs like the sound system for music performances and technology to make the market run more smoothly. Reach out to [email protected] if you would like to be a market sponsor. Sponsors will have prominent advertising opportunities.
  • Market Volunteers: Sign up to volunteer at the market on Fridays. Parking Attendants, Market Support Team Members, and other volunteer roles are needed. Click here to express interest in volunteering.

Get ready and get excited!

Well, we at Nūhaus can’t wait to get out and support this all-new weekly community gathering offering local organic food, vintage & handmade goods & live music - Sounds like fun!
